Since I wrote on the 27th September to let
you know how matters stood on your three
despatches about the Hong Kong University, matters
have progressed somewhat.
First of all Sloss, after receiving e long
letter from Ride on various financial points got
into touch with us here and we had a very useful
talk in which he and Cox and Walter Adams took part.
One of the results of that talk was my message to
you in our telegram No. 1771 about the visit of
the Delegation from the Inter-University Council
which you have now agreed to postponed until March.

A further result was the formal letter to the
Inter-University Council, a copy of which I
enclose, emphasizing the Secretary of State's
anxiety for continued support for the University,

outlook in regard to the future of the University, which
